Home Additions Built to Belong

The difference between a good addition and an obvious one is continuity. Rooflines, window proportions, floor levels, materials and daylight all have to carry through, or the new space reads as something bolted on later.

Additions

The difference between a good addition and an obvious one is continuity. Rooflines, window proportions, floor levels, materials and daylight all have to carry through, or the new space reads as something bolted on later.

LACM approaches additions as a structural and architectural problem first. We look at how the existing house is built, where load can go, how circulation should change, and how the addition connects to the outdoor space that makes living in Los Angeles worthwhile.

Capabilities

What LACM builds

  • Additional bedrooms and primary suites
  • Family rooms and expanded living space
  • Kitchen expansions and reconfigured floor plans
  • Second-story additions where structure and site allow
  • Structural openings between existing and new space
  • Indoor/outdoor connections — terraces, decks and door systems
  • Matching or intentionally contrasting exterior materials
  • Systems coordination across old and new construction

Process

How the work moves forward.

  1. 01

    Conversation

We start by understanding the property, the goals and how the finished space needs to work day to day.

  2. 02

    Planning & Scope

Scope, sequencing and constraints are defined clearly before construction, so decisions happen early rather than mid-project.

  3. 03

    Construction

Owner-involved construction with direct communication, coordinated trades and consistent site control.

  4. 04

    Completion

Finish work, punch list and closeout handled properly. LACM does not leave a job unfinished.

Considerations

Worth knowing early

  1. 01

Existing conditions matter. Foundations, framing and previous work often set the practical limits of an addition, and it's better to know that up front.

  2. 02

Living through construction is part of the project. Sequencing, dust control and site access are worth planning deliberately when the family stays in the house.

  3. 03

Continuity is a decision. Matching the original architecture and deliberately contrasting with it are both valid — we just want it chosen, not accidental.
